Yeah the black screen is a big issue for a lot of players idk if its memory related, I have 8gb memory and though it loads faster than it used to when I had just 4gb its still an issue (or is it graphic card memory?). Though I never tried to drop anything to speed the process...
Maybe you should turn off any extra graphic settings that are on in your client.

I think that in this case it might be an issue with corrupted resource files. Maybe the file with swimming animation is borked so whenever his character starts swimming client can't load the file and just waits in black screen. If that's the case then clearing java cache / reinstalling client should help

In Camera Opitons - disable "quality water" or something option like this - its work

Very unclear story, did you end up losing your stuff by being looted or did someone stole your crap while you were gone inside your base ?

i think he passed out on the water? either way its not the dev's fault for having a crappy pc with mmo's you can only do so much about the lag the rest is just how much of that data you can send and receive some of the time lag isn't an issue on memory it's a hard drive that is to slow or the operating system if you don't like lag don't play games
