Or you could just build proper defences around your leanto.

Or you could change "or" to "and".
If we're talking about average town, not a well planned fortress, it has walls and braizers, which is enough to stop random loner, but it still can be raided by experienced group of players as long as it worth it for personal, economic or political reasons. Mentioned keys have nearly no use for attackers, but losing them can cause a lot of trouble to the victim, which turns stealing keys into pure griefing.
Plus don't forget about spies and travels.

So you are suggesting to implement a completely new and complex lockpicking system just because hiding your attuned keys in a random mine/log/chest/stump is too hard?

How about just not making keys stealable. As its been pointed out, if someone has access to your leanto then why do they need to steal your keys... ok, you could have another base... so this is supposed to be a thing that is bad for criminals who want to be running between bases, and need to now use gatekeeper alts.

No, because game mechanics should be based on your planning skills, time investment and dedication, instead of pure luck and hope.

No you're misunderstanding the system. Some people have used hundreds of alt vaults in the past, especially during Loftorb's folly of making legacy pure hummus a thing last world. I myself had something like 50 alts full of stuff last world and I wasn't the most avid alt vaulter.

Alt vaults are bad for the game. Stealing from lean to's is okay in my opinion as long as it's not game breaking like being able to steal keys from someone so they can never get back into their base.

Noobs are going to have to know that they should not buy cash shop items until they have a firm defense is all. Defense has gotten some rather large buffs with this patch also so they'll be fine with a little help from studying the defensive system and just putting their main's lean to inside that defense.

As pointed out, it's probably not game-breaking as claim owners have 0 soak on buildings. It's still a huge pain in the ass, though, if you have to replace more than a few locks. Maybe add in a "break lock" command for the claim owner instead of just smashing chests and gates?

Hmm I had not considered chests, I guess stealing someone keys is not about their gate keys but the keys for metal chests really, and sheds. From that point of view I guess it makes sense. I would prefer to see chests become pickable though rather than keys stealable, as having to replace gates will be annoying. Is not like people will be locked out, is more likely that people will break in through walls as gates have been made stronger, so your base is breached anyway, what does it matter if someone has your wall keys, they are useless now (except to get to the rest of the base).

Don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud.

PClaims and leanto will work the same as far as being able to bind your character to it and people being able to steal from it.
