So your saying the Majority of the player base will not like the idea of having 1 Personal Claim not have this upkeep tax?

Are you for real?

This is great! All these abandoned settlements around me should be ripe of raiding in a month :D
I'll probably get rid of the claim I put over my mine entrance though, not really worth having it there anymore.

So you're saying your a freeloader who doesn't want to pay taxes?

Obviously you haven't played this game long enough or had any experience playing Haven & Hearth, otherwise you would completely understand why they're doing this. The upkeep costs really aren't that much money. If your reasoning for being able to have a permanent claim is that you want to be able to take more than 2 months off from the game and come back to find your place the way you left it, you need to accept the reality that others have already pointed out numerous times in this thread. If you're gone for that long, your place will likely have been broken into and ransacked anyways. The upkeep costs help active players by removing inactive claims from the game. That frees up real estate without active players having to sink money into dropping a town bell on a claim in order to remove it. You act like this is punishing active players when in fact it's doing the opposite.

Although I agree that most players would rather not pay upkeep, many of us who have played games with no-decay housing on the world map believe some mechanism needs to be in place to clear away abandoned claims.

It is especially necessary in Salem since there aren't that many good locations (forest/grass/water/clay) where you aren't near someone who might decide to raid you since you are competing with them for resources (or for no reason at all). Then there are claims used to protect mine entrances, many of which are no longer in use, and claims used as PvP/griefing tools; these need to decay in some manner as well.

I have seen other decay mechanics in some games; however, most of them relied on whether the player is currently subscribed or require slow but constant physical repairs of the buildings rather than an upkeep fee.

Is this a Free to Play game or a Pay to Play game?

Right now in order to progress its 120 silver per month as base (150 silver is 4.99), the more you progress the more you have to spend.

Dont tell me about killing stuff or running around getting savage charms, down the line the way this is going you prob wont be able to sell stuff to the NPC's for silver.

I think this is a completely necessary to balance town bells. Before this they were only there to prevent being town belled. Now at least they should be cheaper/tile rent I believe?

It's a shame, had to let a friend declaim my 7k silver Pclaim. Now I can't horribly ruin the game area forever anymore T-T

As for people complaining about the price: Kill crickets ffs. You can make 100-200s an hour easily that way.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

I strongly doubt anyone, who played this game for more than a week, would even consider buying silver for cash.
And now, because silver is available at the cash shop, the game is pay to play? See, if devs remove silver from cash shop then you will lose your argument, and it will have no impact on the game. Or they can change this upkeep into something different than silver. Hay maybe?

Seriously if you make a claim, then if you add 20% to its cost you automatically have claim's upkeep for 2 months.

What is the problem? I don't get it. If you could afford making a claim, why is this 20% every months such a big deal?
