To be fair, we have implemented the new system so that we can easily restore to the system where clothing prof matters. Unfortunately, the sheer volume of professions, contrasted against the relatively small number of clothes made it near impossible to add any form of choice to what characters wore. When we reach a level of content where there is between 300 and 500 clothing options we feel it would be entirely possible to have different clothing sets with different slots and different professions. Until then, it just simply meant that "Tailors wear this", "Alchemists wear that", "raiders where this" type system which we felt was not as much fun.

Will the difficulty of artifacts be adjusted so the more difficult ones don't become totally useless without the clothes to mod their difficulty down a bit?

We decided it is more fun if everything is between 1% and 10% chance to slot. ¦]

Just kidding. Yes every artifice in the game has had its difficulty adjusted. It is nearly impossible for a newer player slotting an easily obtained artifice to get less than a 60% success rate. The proficiency levels of the slotter only begin to really matter when trying to slot the higher tier artifices. Overall, players will find that their slotting chances are significantly higher than before, however, obtaining the best artifice in the game is now quite a challenge.

Will additional uses for the materials be added to offset the lesser need for clothing in such a system? (Cotton, leather etc.)

I do not anticipate a lesser-need for clothing.

Expecting the increased variety of artifices to cover for the lesser difficulty then?

I'm expecting the difficulty of the clothing to depend on the skill of the tailor with of course some RNG. I expect clothing will be made even more as a result as players strive to get the easiest to slot clothes, i.e. best roll when crafting them.

Does this mean the upcoming patch is more about professions afterall - and less about combat? Or some hybrid of the two?

Dammit!
I was just thinking of making a perfect clothes shop where i would sell things for like 3000s, but now it wont be so hard to slot things :cry:
