This doesn't really make much sense, we have iron mining already and if you can't set up a mine you can buy from the guide or from other players, what does this add?

The ability to make 1 nail items on the fly such as sawbucks and clay tubs or maybe you just want 1 compost bin in a spot, removes the reliance on mine and smelters just for a nail or spend a lot of silver for one in boston or going to boston trying to find a seller.
Gives more flexibility when out in the wild and reduces the need to have a smelter, mine, anvil at your side. I would assume finding one would be rare and not something you would go after for mass quantities, still easier to use a smelter and mine if ones available. For small demand for a nail now and then, you don't have to bother with smelter unless you want a lot or even over time it could save you time if you collected few, no need to be bothered running the smelter.

The needing iron before having iron is kind of bothersome for a crafting MMO, imo. Still, with silver in place as is it's not all that needed.
I like the idea as well though. Perhaps make it a rare foragable in a crag or mountain biome that doubles as a curio for mainly Mines & Mountains?

if you do not have your own mine and all the nails you need by the end of your first few days playing you are doing it wrong.

yeah that was kinda the point, needing iron before you can make it in a crafting mmo. It really is meant as a minor suggestion, not something to go hog wild on.
