The Scent/Leanto Issue

Currently if you pickup a summonable scent, it will last for an unlimited amount of time. The scent on the ground expires, but the scent you picked up will last in your bag until the end of time. This is broken as ***** imo.

Say the game has been out for 3 years and 2 weeks. 2 weeks into the game, I left a theft scent at a friend's base trying to trade with him and that scent was collected by a raider at the time. For the next 3 years, I never leave a scent. If I am raided by the scent holder, I will be summoned and killed. This makes zero sense to me. The second a scent is picked up in the game world that is tied to your character, that character is essentially doomed for all of eternity. Why build stats? Why progress? Your character is a dead man walking anyways.

2nd issue following this. Leanto decay.

If your leanto is not on a claim (though it is CLAIMED by you) it will decay. After a while, the leanto will simply break. This means that someone with a scent from 3 years ago can insta summon you and insta kill your character even if you haven't left a scent in that 3 year span. This means that I have tethered to my character forever also. I will always need to repair my leanto, or I will die. If I make a p claim, I can be memorized/identified and summoned also. Or if the p claim loses auth and someone breaks it, again, insta death. If I go the p claim over my leanto route, I'm still tethered to the game because I need to keep the upkeep steady. There's no "taking a break from the game" because once you do you're essentially surrending your character's body to the Oddgod.

Please make it so that when scents expire on the ground they also expire in their inventory.

Nope... If you are not prepared to lose the character then don't commit crimes. A criminal is NEVER safe from prosecution and those who commit crimes should in fact live in constant fear for the remainder of their Salem career.

I think this is a good idea, to have a statute of limitations on scents. However, if they do expire from inventory, then the time they take to expire should last a little longer. Currently, some scents only last a couple days on the ground, right? That's not enough time for a player to get a new character and get justice, even if they hire someone.

It is a fair amount of time. Murder scents last a very long time on the ground.

No, scents in inventories do not last infinitely, they just last much longer than scents on the map. The intention behind this is that the summonability of a scent should last longer than the ability to track, the reasoning being that the offending party thus will have a much harder time knowing whether they are now, at some point in the future, actually safe or not.

LOL... This thread was a lot funnier when he thought they lasted forever Great Spirit :). Who knew you were the guy at the party to let the victim in on the joke :)
