Hello folks. Something that has perplexed me for quite a while is the few differences between salem and haven&hearth.

Considering they should be quite different thanks to Salems 3D engine. But sadly no since we do not actually have ANY mechanics that actually use the terraforming capabilities of Salem's engine.

Imagine having Hill irrigations Image
Increasing Farm yield or just making it a speedier way of applying some sort of fertilizer to alot of fields at the same time.

Imagine having something like this on on a slope to aquire "gold" from a river
Image

Imagine making hills to increase the radius of Brazier fire. Watchposts, etc.
Also making a Moat would just be too awesome.(i know there might be issues but a 5-10tile restriction or something in thickness might serve well).

Image

Imagine something simple as a way of transporting multiple objects fast. Build a hill place a bunch of farms, turkey coops, Animal husbandry (if and when it comes out) then build a simple wooden slide down the hill and slide down the goods, Be it poop from turkeys/animals, Pumpkins & other farm products or what the heck just ore blocks.

There could be other ideas & inventions(mechanics) that elude me at the moment However theese are just a few ones i figured id put out there.

P.S. Pictures included for people like darwoth!

Water physics is extremely expensive to calculate, no way is it going to happen in an MMO for the next ten years at the very least.

Run water physics module at random intervals on average once per week?

Except you need to recalculate immediately whenever any terraforming is done.

Nah, some simple water mechanics (like water flowing down) wouldn't be that hard to implement (at least relatively), since we have... uhm... discrete heightmap? Not sure if that's how it's called.
The question is if those mechanics would provide enough fun to warrant their implementation (i don't think so).

Its been addressed by the devs already.

Allright it seems NONE Of you have anything to say other than water physics being troublesome. CONSIDERING THE CURRENT WATER PHYSICS ARE BASICALLY NILCH ATM making some kind of gold wash mechanical gear with a gif kind of water graphic with requirement to be within 1 tile from river/lake and pooof no more issues with water physics.

TO THE POINT OF THE THREAD!!!

I'll use big letters so even people having hard time to read through posts will read something.

SALEMS SLOPE/HILL MAKING IS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE FROM HAVEN! FFS USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE INSTEAD OF IT ONLY BEING AN ANNOYING GRIND FOR BEGINNERS AND OLDTIMERS ALIKE.

CONSIDER HAVING BUILDINGS ONLY BEING ABLE TO BE BUILT ON SLOPES ETC.

And pocket slots, Poison mushrooms and new hats and empty promises are more valid stuff to implement yes??

The devs have been saying since alpha that fluid mechanics simply will not work that way based on the current setup
