The Jord and Loftar Purity fix Game

Postby pistolshrimp » Wed Apr 24, 2013 12:30 am

Let's play a game. In this game you play the role of Jorb and Loftar and you get to decide the next three updates. The goal of this game is to "fix" purity and or the imbalances it has created.

The rules:
You get three updates. If you need less that's okay.
You only get one post. Put this one in bold. (You may comment on other people's posts or edit your main post as many times as you like.)
Only things that address purity in some way can be included in you updates.
You may not introduce huge game changing elements. For instance no sever wipe, no new severs, no humour caps, etc.
You cant get rid of purity and 100 % has to be extremely difficult if not near impossible to obtain.

Ultimately I'd like to strike up meaningful discussion about not necessarily whats wrong with the recent purity updates, but how they might be fixed without the need for drastic measures. I did decide to put this in ideas and innovations thread so keep that in mind when creating your updates.

Alright, I'll go first:

Update #1: Okay We Hear You

The purity of the boards and nails of the compost bin give a slight bonus to humus purity. With boards adding more than nails.

The purity of the clay in clay pots now gives a slight bonus to the purity of the item being grown.

Purity has been added to nails.

Earthworms will now eat any plant put into compost bin.

The price of Cow Manure sold in Boston has been raised slightly. It now has a randomized purity rating 0.1 - 50.

Sawbucks now have the option to remove log.

Update #2: In Roads To Witchcraft

The stability of your alchemical mixings are now capped by perennial and natural philosophy, with natural philosophy being more important than perennial.

You can now make glass.

Items can now be added to cauldron. Filled with water, stirred and heated over time will create "Mysterious Fluid" with a purity based on the combined purity of the most common highest element. This fluid can then be used in your alchemical devices. Or to water crops, tan hides, etc.

Update #3:

Hollow stumps, berry bushes, thorn bushes and myrtle oak now have the purity of that node. Meaning, items gathered from or from inside them now have purity.

Artifacts now have purity giving a slight bonus to its stats.

Compost bins now have the option to "Chip Wood". Resulting in Wood Choppings being added to your inventory. Doing this several times will damage to your compost bin.

Pots now have the option of "Chip Stone". Resulting in Pottery Shards being added to your inventory. Pottery Shards are a new inspirational not unlike Wood Choppings except gives you arts&crafts, sparks&embers, hammer&nail, and mines&mountains. Doing this will result in damage to your pot. Pots can be repaired with unfired clay.

Update 1 - Moooving it along
Introduce cows as wild animals able to be coralled within fences, milked and they leave (purity) manure on the ground.
Manure is a fertilizer that can be used in pots and on fields as humus is currently, when preparing a field with manure it gives the crops that purity. However adds nothing when used as fertilizer (as current mechanics)

Wild trees have alchemical purity, nails display purity, pots and compost bins display purity on 'Inspection'

Update 2 - A kick in the glass
Glass manufacturing

Tbh I personally think this is all it needs.. the ability to START the purity grind without watching worms slowly nibble their way up ever so slightly to have the slightest hope of having ANY purity whatsoever.

Update 1: April's Fools!

Well, for the salem open beta we wanted to do something special, and one day of random jests just didn't cut it. We went with a whole month of purity grinding torture!
Now, however, it's over and we have rolled back the gruelling changes. Alchemic tools have been kept (they look nice).

For balancing, the multiplier of the objects produced is now capped by the producing character's proficiency (but the alchemy remains unchanged for further processing), and purity raising on fields will be a tad slower.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Update 1: Small step towards a dead game
-New alchemy junk
-Brazier nerf
-Well purities (Hardly any rise in purity compared to natural resource)

... and i cant even think of what will be ruined in the next 2 updates, possibly everything:(

I admit its taken me a week to really understand the new purity stuff, but I dont think its broken. I know all the people who had high crops and humus will shout me down on this, but I like the way things are going, and, its wednesday, which means next update tomorrow, and these are a series of updates that shouldnt be judged on what has already been published.
Personally I would like to see the introduction of animal husbandry, and purity in the animals, as another avenue which maybe can raise your overall purity. Im not a number cruncher, I cant even read the red text most of the time, and the calculator is open quite regularly, but all in all, I like it.
Once you accept that ridiculous purity is a year or more away, at least, if ever, then it becomes a lot more enjoyable.
Stop thinking about whats been taken away, and look at what has been given, and play!
The world wont end if you dont have 99.999999% purity!
Is terminally confused and her head hurts
