There's also a biome I always think of as hardwood forest, though it doesn't seem to count as forest. It spawns a lot of mushroom and garlic, has a green/brown color, and is full of different types of trees. I suppose the elm would be appropriate for spawning it.
I like to call it it "Mixed Forest". Its floor has brown patches on a contiguous green background, it has every type of tree and unlike other forests it spawns both Milkweed and Autumn Grass (and occasionally salt), but no chestnuts or berries.
On the public Jamestown map, there's an area down south where a swathe of Coniferous and Mixed forest meet each other, and you can see the subtle difference between them in the minimap view. From far out, the Mixed forest appears as a redder brown while the Coniferous is darker. Closer you can see that their splotch/background colors are the reverse of the other.
I'm really not sure what kind of tree would be emblematic of the Mixed Forest, since it seems to have them all.
