As said before, it's the "Crafting MMO" because all character progression occurs through crafting.
And just like most MMO's it has PvP combat.
And like some MMO's it has an open sandbox environment.
And like a few MMO's it has a permanent death feature (like Wizardry Online, but meaningful).
If someone assumes from the tagline "Crafting MMO" that the game is for care-bears it's because of their own assumptions about crafting. In some games crafting requires huge investments in PvE and sometimes PvP combat, and defiantly isn't for the faint of heart. Eve Online comes to mind. Getting high-tier resources in that game in the quantities needed is near impossible without some serious muscle behind you.
So I disagree that the tagline is misleading, nor that the devs are trying to hide the nature of the game. Heck, on the About page the second sentence starts with "The game features permadeath as one of its main gimmicks..." You're supposed to die in this game, and I think the devs have done a good job communicating that expectation. I think a lot of people disregard this expectation because it's not the norm.
