Also dunno who's online for my buddy list, also annoying.

If you are talking about the ??? that is intended. Your buddy list will have a different icon next to them when they are online

If you have them kinned, online characters have a torch next to them.

If they are trying to stay realistic (lol...) they won't do that. Had they wanted to they would of ages ago. In their eyes it's a realistic thing you don't instantly know who you are talking to

Does a name really matter when, for all you know, it could be someone's alt you'll never ever see again online?

I think it's great for RP but kinda confusing for game play.

You can memorize people and give them a name yourself so you can at least distinguish from other ??? in area chat. Also, if they whisper you and you are standing nearby, they will turn to face you. You'll face them if you whisper back. It's a good way to know who is talking to you and you can mem them then.
