Fix Snakes

For new players Snakes are the worst (I know it has been said before).
They seriously hamper new players just trying to get started.
When in combat mode stamina doesn't replenish - I don't have enough to climb a ledge - making escape from snake impossible! Snakes are invisible and extremely agro, they pusue relentlessly.
A bear I can understand, bears roar (warning), & obviously hostile creatures.

Snakes are practically invisible, if you don't have any weapons or stomp you are dead.
kilometres from home all your loot is dropped - which means no sword for you, or new stomp attack skill. So even if you can kill them but fail to they take away your ability to kill them, therefore you can't kill them even if you could. I often encounter them when my stamina is already low - suddenly I'm attacked & possibly poisoned then often dead in seconds.
Also no indication that loss of skills results - which can happen multiple times trying to retrieve loot. This can completely harm a new player, who thinks it is a bug or just can't understand how all that level is suddenly gone.
Normal snakes in real life only attack if threatened - they don't pursue endlessly like a terminator (sure bears will).

I know you will say "If you can't handle snakes wait for pk players!" - but I am aware of Permanent death - says it in game description, but it doesn't NOT say PK SNAKES which remove skills!!!!

I really think they shouldn't pursue - that would make them far fairer.

Run to shallow water, they can't cross it. You can also outdistance them if you run in a straight line (make sure you click the crossed swords icon beside the snake's portrait over to the olive branch to try and end combat faster). Other than that, I'd recommend using Ender's client, since snakes show up on the minimap there and you can avoid them completely.

Yes, you should use Ender's Client, it's here: http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=50

Snakes show up on the map in Ender's. They're similar in color to deer, but you can edit the 'radar.xml' to change their color. There are threads that tell you how to do that if you do a search.

And yeah, everyone agrees that the default client needs a lot of work, but we do have alternatives until they get to that part of the list of things to do.

Is there a sticky somewhere that reccomends and has ender's client? I think that should be front and center so any new player sees it immediately and can use it.

I evaded snakes with farly low humours even before switching to Ender's client. Diving into water or climbing a ledge all help.
The only time I actually got knocked out by animals in over two months of playing was when I got bitten right after flattening a hill, so I didn't have enough phlegm to run to the camp with the serum.

So snakes are fine, just learn to deal with them.

Yeah figured the water thing out - only helpful if near water. Straight line & click on crossed swords are good tips thanks - still think they need to be ajusted though.

There is a sticky, the Useful Links in the help section. The problem is getting people to click on it.

My prayers were answered - snakes it seems have been nerfed, either you need pugilism or something - they don't out right attack one of my noob alts any longer.
I can't wait to have a reason to spend some money in the game shop - think Redcoat set will be a good spend, and can see myself buying much Snuff in the future.

That doesn't sound like Jorbtar. Try afking with a new character near a snake and see if it bites you within 5 minutes. You could just have been lucky.
