Locking houses

Postby anfros » Thu Jan 17, 2013 5:40 pm

As far as I could find there are no topics about this so I'm creating one. Irl it's much more likely that you would put a lock on the door of your house than that you lock your cabinets. I therefore propose that houses should become lockable.

This would have an impact on the game in that it would make raiding a little harder, especially considering the recent house strength buff.

Already planned. Not implemented yet due to a lack of means of getting in the house other than tearing it down. (At least, as far as we can tell. Certain skill descriptions mentions being able to do this.) Chests, this is ok. Houses... that's a bit expensive. People would still leave their houses unlocked just so they wouldn't get bashed down. Besides, if one can get in through the walls, do you think the lock on the house is going to be a deterrent?

If houses door locks will work like braziers-turn-off-mechanic (when they get 50% dmg then doors are bashed and you may enter) it may work imho.

I'm thinking that if you could lock your house it would serve as a way to hinder people from stealing stuff without breaking it, the whole point of locking your house would be to force people to destroy it rather than just take whats inside it, thus making them having to stay on your claim longer and take more brazier fire bb drain or whatever. All defense mechanics in this game relies on delaying people enough that raiding you becomes a bigger pain than it is worth. Also take into consideration that it now takes more then 10x longer to break buildings on claims.
