Help Channel In-Game

I think were really lacking any kind of ingame help that new players can go to when they cant find an answer, if a new chat channel was made and new players automatically joined for a short period (say first weeks gameplay) and give other players the ability to join/leave said channel, we could self-help much easier than having to use the forums all the time.

Moderation would be required. Probably could ask for community volunteers though.

I wouldn't want this to let any random salemer chat though, the helpers would have to be selected.

That chat channel would get pretty abused for global-communications and trolling if it was not moderated at all times - which is not very possible with our current resources.

Don't most clients have IRC in them? If that is the case then there are people in #salem who can help you out most of the time.

It's not super hard to log out and check the Help! section here either :)

Aye your right, it would require moderation as not to be abused or used as some kind of general chat. I see alot of other games having something similar though with trusted community volunteers.

Not sure about the IRC, personally I don't use it and I'm assuming many new players wont either (I think the trade channel is a good example of something useful being under-used.)

I was just trying to think of a more direct help method to combat the very steep learning curve Salem has, the help forums are essential for sure but sometimes, quick instant answers can save a new player from hours of waiting or searching for some very basic information.

Great idea and it would be better solution than 100 same posts about same bugs or problems...
but I have seen it on some other online beta games and mods where busy 24/7 because
people trolled (intentionally and not) in different languages on help channel, so it would be mess without mods :/

Imho better solution would be to put some web browser in game and make permanent urls
in it into help and bugs sections of forum (read only, no posting available!) + simple search form,
so lazy people would get in game help after two clicks.

Even players who troll 99% on the forums are surprisingly helpful when people ask questions in Help? or irc.
