hotkey to collect nearest item on the ground

hit space bar and the character goes to the closest item in a certain range and picks it up... if there's a pile, pick the first one... this would save a lot of energy in the long run

The item radar from custom clients is intended to be implemented in the main client from what Loftar has told me. So no, it's not cheating. It's just low down on the current priority list.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

You can right click items on the mini map to pick them up (using Enders)

It will be neither actually. Loftar will probably program his own from scratch.

I do that on Ender's, but sometimes you can't even do that, if you're on top of the item you have to walk and then pick...

my OP suggestion was a simple hotkey to pick the nearest random item on the ground... many times you just have 1 single item near you, like a cricket... you could just hit spacebar and it would move to it and pick it, or pick the first in a pile of things... this is common in MMOs because on the long run saves a lot of tiresome interactions
