Appearance Update

Can we have more personalization to the character appearance?

Some easier suggestions would be skin color, and more difficult (codewise?) would be eyes, nose, and some other random features.

Also, can we have a paid barber NPC? To pay to change hairstyles (not color)

Hair styles are difficult because they might clip even more and worse with existing hats etc. etc.

Skin color is a mess because it could mean swapping out different textures for the character models or at least applying a hue over it.

Deforming the mesh of the characters with their eyes, nose, and other random features is a problem because then we may have an issue with different faces behaving differently in different animations depending on how the skeletons interact with the new diverse meshes.

changing hair is a problem because long-term I want the 'appearance' of a player to mean something. This is a bit complicated to go into at the moment, however, I merely mean to say that all these are nice things but none of them are exactly low hanging fruit.

Extremely. We wrestled for a good solid week trying to implement the hook hand for the skill revenge. One day I should put together a little list for the community on 'major' vs. 'minor' technologies. Basically we are open to anything that I would valuate at less than $2,500 expense to implement (art, coding, design etc. etc.) Once a 'single' technology starts to get above that threshold I certainly do not imagine it as 'off the table' I just imagine it to be one of those nice things that we will do and/or can stomach to splurge on when Salem sustains server populations in the 2-5K daily users. Until then we will try to make improvements that have more 'mileage' for the cost, if that makes sense.

We don't like day nightcycles..... because you already have darkness and light based on civ ratings.

I would really have to ponder it. I mean I'm not ENTIRELY sure there is a massive harm in having multiple textures applied over the character.
