Hair styles are difficult because they might clip even more and worse with existing hats etc. etc.
Skin color is a mess because it could mean swapping out different textures for the character models or at least applying a hue over it.
Deforming the mesh of the characters with their eyes, nose, and other random features is a problem because then we may have an issue with different faces behaving differently in different animations depending on how the skeletons interact with the new diverse meshes.
changing hair is a problem because long-term I want the 'appearance' of a player to mean something. This is a bit complicated to go into at the moment, however, I merely mean to say that all these are nice things but none of them are exactly low hanging fruit.
