This game is boring... at start.

First ~4h of game is very boring for new players.
Instead of "quest" search smooth stone maybe it will be more interesting to send people to NPCs and talk with them about quest.
After few talks new character could get as reward some inspirationals and other quests like "hunt rabbits", "make camp", "build farm" etc etc.
For every achievement there will be reward in Boston... in time people will learn that they don't need quests any more and they can handle to play on their own.
This mechanic could be transition between other silly mmo and "real world" in Salem :)

I honestly wouldn't expect new players to understand that it's a sandbox game after a series of quest even if explicitly told by the NPCs.

Reminds me of how new players in H&H sometimes thought their primary source of LP was discovering new items, instead of studying curios.

Edit: I would like to see this if it could be implemented in a way that isn't too confusing to new players.

And while on the topic of beginning learning, I feel the help menu texts should be more concise, and with more direct vocabulary. I understand jorb wants to maintain a professionalism of the text, but I feel most players don't even read them because they are so long winded, and are generally confusing. I read the agriculture one and thought no new players would understand it at all.

New players to HnH or old players in new world? :)

I can agree with that, there are some "stories" for most items and for more important achievements, but they are very confusing if you are unfamiliar with "Jorb logic".
Still I think that beginners quests are right solution, people are familiar with it from other games.
Few last quests may be constructed in way to show new players interactions with other players like quest "Memorize and chat with someone",
it would be awesome to make quest "Trade with other real player", but game doesn't allow to track trading, well at least I think so.

More ideas to make basic ruined camp and every new player should learn how to turn on and track some NPC criminal and summon kill him.

What is boredom? Everybody has their own perception of what is fun and what is boring...obviously Salem is boring for you, but to go as far as saying 'this game is boring' is incredibly shallow.

I would suggest changing the title of your topic to 'Ideas to help new players' or something else that is more in line with what you actually want to discuss in this thread.

Not to say that the early game is "fun" per se but the addition of tree stumps with goodies in em, hollow logs for storage, deadfalls for easy logs and blueberry bushes made the early game a LOT less tedious. I'd like to see more fun stuff like that added early game.

This game is boring... at start!
Read whole title before comment like this and no, Salem is not boring for me.

I disagree. I think one of the 'funnest' parts in the game is starting out. Creating new characters, making inspirationals for studying, and making foods to eat for the first 100 or so humours is one of the more entertaining aspects of gameplay for me. After awhile, the game becomes more work than fun.

True, but I said first 4 hours, after that time you got many options and it is more fun.
I heard people think that whole game is like those 4 hours :/
