there are several threads regarding stock bins and one that was posted on this morning started within last couple days. http://forum.salemthegame.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=15219#p222231
please read my post regarding why only select things should be stocked. basically you only need to stock things that need to be used in large quantities possibly faster than you can acquire them.

instead of picking lots of sticks when he needs them, maybe he wants to pile up a lot of sticks for immediate use when he needs it?

plant a tree. Seriously stockbins should be only used for items you would need 500 or more in to get even started on a project. otherwise build a shed for those items

So fueling up a dozen kilns or smokers does not qualify?

Be careful with what you define good and bad if you cant do it good. :P

[edit:]
I too think storing branches in a stockbin is not necessary, not completely useless, but not necessary, just to make this clear.

you can get 50 branches a minute. no i think it is silly to stock branches. A stock bin will not save you any time or hassle when it comes to sticks.

Again, I too think it is unnecessary, but: You could use an alt to gather branches, or your main while you go afk for 5 minutes, then store the branches in a stockbin and you dont need to wait those 5 minutes next time you need 200+ branches...
