Greetings Salemites,
As you all know Salem is a political game. Relationship between players are the central aspect to the game, even more so than the survival. Is is easy to survive in a sense - harder to thrive I agree - but it is hard to develop meaningful relationship with other players. Managing to do so is the first step to mastering the game but in this journey we are bound to encounter obstacles, impediments that results in the creation of foes. As a peaceful player I know that, without willing to, I developed a few enmities with some people - even though I agree that my strong ideals and principles may be the cause of it. If you want to thrive and to reach the top, you will have to join an alliance, a town or whatever name you may give them.
Of course those alliances and enmities are bound to create tears that our developers are thirsty for.
That is in this context that I propose my idea. Governors. It was a reality at the time that the different areas and towns in the colony where governed by boards and at the head of this board would be a Governor, appointed by the King but chosen -to an extent- by the people (what would happen is that they would push candidates and the King would choose from them or appoint his own if he is not happy with any). I would propose that every month there would be elections for a Governor and a board of executives specialized in different domain. They would have some powers over the course of the world.
The economic adviser would be able to control the taxes of the stall to a certain extent for example (that could be for example lowering the taxes by 5% or choosing to distribute more equally the taxes to the top 10 towns).
The military adviser would choose different events for example. Those events would maybe create dangers for the pilgrims but if successful would give a boost to other areas (Indian invasion would lead to increase rate of savage charms, if the governor choose not to attack the Indians then the savage charms rate would drop a bit). That would be risk and reward choices.
Then you could have a political adviser, negotiating with the King, etc.
Of course I understand that this idea would be very hard to implement and would require an important collaboration between players elected and developers. But on the same time it is something that was not attempted very often in the History of Video Games and that never was really achieved.
What do you guys think? Would that be an idea you would be interested in? Would you think it would be possible to implement?
