Watch Towers

I suggested this idea to JC a bit ago, but I kind of want to see what the community at large thinks of it :). The concept is very simple: a watch tower works kind of like a super brazier. Built inside your claim or inside a village, it'll do damage to those who try and harm you. Here's the thing: In order to make it work at all, someone needs to man it. Manning a watch tower will set your character in it, who will then stay there even while offline. This means that if the watch tower is destroyed, your character will be knocked out and at the mercy of whoever destroyed it. In order to prevent people from just planting some crappy alt in it, the tower's damage and range are dependent on whoever's manning its biles (probably yellow and black). It'd have a fairly large base health, but could gain a bonus from a character's blood. This could mean said watch tower could be twice as strong as a brazier with twice the range, or a piece of junk. So yeah, that's basically all I can think to put in here. What do you guys think?

I think it's pretty good since it comes with a high reward for the raider's if its a high level character say 200 in every stat just to get decent damage. It would mean if they ko the char and scalp it they'll more then likely get an executioners mask as a reward from puggles, and on the other hand its a better deterrent against scavengers that just like to scavenge bases without any real trouble.

Great idea IMO, however i think it should be more than just twice as stong as a brazier, maybe triple the damage that a brazier causes instead.

It certainly could, though it'd depend how high-biled the character is who's manning the tower. A character with five all-round biles manning it would probably have it be as useless as a pile of wood, but one with 200 biles and you could see some serious damage being dealt :).

Except that people would just build no skill alts with just the humour for the watch tower leveled to man them so it would not be worth that much.

The watch tower would require multiple types of biles in order for it to be at its most effective. For instance, yellow bile for damage, black bile for range, blood for extra health, blue for... attack speed I guess? No matter what, making an alt to create a decent watch tower would not be a simple one-day task. Perhaps you'd need to store a certain amount of gunpowder/bullets in the tower to make it work as well. The upside of it, however, is the initial cost of the watch tower's construction would require wood, not metals like a brazier, making it an option for lower-level homesteads who feel like putting their character at risk, or who may have the ability to create an alt with decent biles but perhaps not the material to build braziers. There could, however, be multiple types of watch towers made of different materials, similar tiers to walls.

I like it but being another brazier like structure is kinda repetitive...

What if it was a just high place from where players could shoot rifles and pistols over the walls?

It would increase weapons range so a town could build a few to be covered, and a hermit would probably need only one central tower to shoot those damn raiders.... It would be a good place to have a weapon storage where rifles could be stored already loaded and ready to shoot.. 2 players could work together, one shooting, the other reloading... It would be a silver drain having all that ammo, but providing defense its worthy... Sorry bout my engrish btw

I'd be down for this idea or any decent idea involving watch towers, really. I honestly just love the idea of more versatility in defense  .

It seems a bit out of place to me, almost medieval. I agree with the idea of versitility of defense, but I'm not sure this fits. I could be wrong tho.

I would really love to see something like this too. it would be nice to explore, raiding and tracking. i think it could allow just to see one or two further minimap squares when you are standing still.
