Scavenger hunt

I'd love some kind of scavenger hunt mechanic, I don't mind what its for, I just think it would act as a good system to drive people to get the harder to reach items. There have been a few of the more radical suggestions where I have suggested this as a form of payment or levelling up for them. Back in HnH there was a suggestion of having a village gate that was "manned" by an NPC, but you would have to feed the NPC else he would let anyone in. Of course it wasn't ever implemented, in fact the idea was immediately lost to the depths of the forums but I still think it would be fun to have something that asked the players for specific food, or specific inspirationals and provided some kind of service or bonus.

I think it would work well with churches, they would have a meter, at full strength they would push the darkness back a long way, but in order to keep the meter full you must donate things to the church. It would ask for three things, something simple that anyone can find/make but only adds 1% to the meter. Something a little harder that any established player will be able to get hold of that will add... 10%? And then the rare/hard to find/expensive item that will add 25-30% IDK perhaps even more. The requested items would change once you make a donation, and perhaps after a certain period if it just happens that the player can't get hold of any of the items. Although I think that last bit is a bit too care beary, there is always the option to go and buy the item from someone else.

Note: This mechanic is used in HnH for Numen points, but its not a key feature.
