Shapeshifting

Witches should have the ability to get into their victim's skin. After victim is murdered witch can perform a ritual requiring victim's scalp and body. After it's finished:
- witch looks like its victim
- witch's presentation name is set to that of the victim's
- victim's body disappears
- people who had victim kinned / memorized now recognize the witch as the victim. Witch, however does not receive the kin list of the victim
- people who had both the victim and the witch kinned / memorized still have both names on their kin list but now both names lead to the same character - the witch.

The question is should the witch in the skin retain the colours the victim had in other people's kin lists, thus retaining permissions on claims. Better not imo.

Marp Tarpton has already said he likes the idea of glamours so fingers crossed we get something of this effect. Though I think it is rather wasted if it can only be used on dead characters - so much more fun can be had with posing as those still living.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

While I think this is an interesting idea, there are also some potential issues with the idea.
Procne wrote:- witch looks like its victim - Looks like them how, exactly? Hair and hair color matches, or clothing matches? Hair would probably be simple enough, but clothing could be an issue. What would happen if the witch decided to unequip their current hat, and equip a new one?
- witch's presentation name is set to that of the victim's No issues here.
- victim's body disappears No issues here.
- people who had victim kinned / memorized now recognize the witch as the victim. Witch, however does not receive the kin list of the victim There would be some awkwardness here. Without receiving the victim's kin list, the witch would have no idea whom they were speaking to, which makes this, perhaps, entirely pointless and useless. See below for my thoughts.
- people who had both the victim and the witch kinned / memorized still have both names on their kin list but now both names lead to the same character - the witch. This would be an acceptable downside to this, provided scents also lead to the witch - an extra danger factor.

The question is should the witch in the skin retain the colours the victim had in other people's kin lists, thus retaining permissions on claims. Better not imo. Probably better not, or this could be easily abusable, though without also gaining the victims gate keys etc, not as abusable as it could be.

Thoughts: Without also getting the kin list, this more or less just gives a witch a method of obtaining "appearance gear". Obtaining the kin-list would make this an interesting infiltration tool.

Changing the look applies only to the body, not equipment. But with your victim's dead body getting his equipment shouldn't be a problem, right?

But if they are dead how would it affect the gameplay? What would you do with this ability? Surely it would not take the player long to let their close friends they were dead. And those that are not close friends, well, it would be unlikely that you would be able to get anything out of the interaction posing as the deseced.

What can you see this ability leading to?

Personally I think A glamour spell should let a witch gain the looks (not clothing) and name of another player (maybe using a doll bound to that player) for as long as their mana/BB/skills holds out - very useful for trolling and casting suspicions.

That is what I figure, which is why I'm questioning the first point. I just didn't question it as thoroughly as I had intended. I'm good at that, easily distracted. :)

You kill a player when he's offline then quickly impersonate him. If you already have his friends kinned / memorized you could try to trick them. To let you in, to give you something - whether item or information. If they didn't know their real friend is dead they would think they are talking with him. The point is to make others think you are that person.

This whole mechanic seems a lot more complicated than it's worth. Everyone in Salem already doesn't trust each other.
