Houses

I live in a village that has a mine on my personal claim. I would like to allow access to everything on my p claim except the things inside the house. If i could just lock the house I would know by scent that it was breached and track said victim for punishment. This way lets say i get a lot of cupboards in said house i would only need to lock one door rather than many cupboards. Even better yet, make it so houses have permissions instead so i can change it on the fly to let someone inside said house when i am not nearby to give them a key. one lock\permission to know if that house was infiltrated by a town member rather than put a lock on every cupboard in the house would be nice for me. Also it would be nice if you could use a house as a homestead therefore cutting down on the number of useless lean-to's.
My father once said, as he once showed me, locks only keep the innocent out so i really see no need to lock every cupboard in the house. How will that matter. If someone wants in they will destroy every cupboard rather than just the lock on the main door. this lock is for protection against town members as there are plenty of other defenses to control against raiders.
Every house has a locked door and sometimes within that house they may be a safe or gun cabinet (good idea) that would also be locked but not everything inside a normal house is locked up.
I could build a fence and gate in front of house but that takes up space and looks stupid.

So long as the door/lock can be broken into without destroying the whole house it would be good. I've always though it would be nice if houses in each size class could be built out of different materials, wood, lath/plaster, brick etc etc. The soak/HP values of doors on houses could then be based on what the house is made of.
A straw house is weak and can be blown down by a wolf
A wooden house is medium and can only be blown down the highest bile character in the game
A Brick house is strongest and can only be blown down by Dallane
When the door is bashed in anyone can enter it and no lock can be reapplied, it would displays a big crack across the door or something so it can be seen too. The whole door will need to be replaced which takes materials appropriate to the house, once a new door is on you can apply a new lock.

Thank you for advancing and responding to my idea on locks. I didn't think about how the dev's could have the entire house destroyed while breaking in. I think that is an excellent idea. I like the idea of having the door show a crack after being broken into along with a scent.

Lock sounds nice, also a skill to go through, but leaving some sort of unsummonable evidence

You can lock the house by building a wall with a gate in front of it

I understand and it looks silly as my post stated. however if it is more than 10-20 min worth the code I would be perfectly ok with just doing that or allow John to decide what he thinks. I am fortunate and understanding to what he prioritizes.

I always thought locking a house was a nice thing, we are not quite to houses yet though so I cannot quite comment on just what direction we will be going with them.
