Not sure how good the devs are about reading ideas but here it goes:
Like trunks, What if items randomly spawn underneath stones in the wild? Not only will players able to check trunks, but also lift rocks to find bugs and other possible things.

A little wet spot could be left where the stone was, where you can open and search for gross things. Maybe even some interesting curious.

This kind of remines me of lion king when they do the same thing when simba goes on a bug diet.
