adding more metal gear would be a great.helment + metal mask that would match.also something like the rock armour and some metal boots would be great too(all craftable).this new metal gear would be made of steel.steel could be crafted like with other games iron and coal.say 24 coal and 1 iron bar=1 steel bar <- couse of them tears.each of them would require like 4-5 steel bars to be crafted.so a complete set would be around 20 steel.there could be an alternative steel armour, making steel + leather armour.say 2 leather 1 steel for some boots or so.

and before you say it,yes i would really like my character to look like a templar knight.

While this is a cool idea there is one thing that wrong. The time periods! Templar knights date back to 1119-1312 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar, while the pilgrims settled america in 1620. Thats nearly 300 years apart! Black powder guns penetrated many metal chest pieces so it wouldn't provide much protection, but of course there were conquistadors that wore metal chest pieces to stop the blow, but not fully protect them. As for the creation of steel, and leather armor it could make a great addition, as steel tools could do the job faster then iron ones, and leather armor would be great for beginners and boost beginner trade with Leather (and maybe metal studdings) Overall the templar armor would be cool if the game was dated back in the medieval era.

Conquistadors were not the only people who used armor. Many countries equipped their troops with them.

We like the idea of steel but were looking to have it be more of a thing than just a material sink. I'm open to any suggestions on fun yet reasonably achievable mechanics that would facilitate the making of Steel and upgraded metals.

My suggestion for metals would be similar to HnH with the long time to smelt steel but also maybe an option to play with making alloys and depending on the alloys we can make metal gear with different looks or attributes. This although would require tin, silver etc, we smelt them in their raw form and then mix them together, say u like the rock armor chest add a bar of gold and its now a gold version with an extra slot or 2 or it boosts combat artifices.

This could also lead to when mining ore it gives a rare chance at a piece of ore that's stronger then all of them, but a long pain in the ass to acquire enough to make a pure set of this ore into armor, but if we cant be bothered just taking a bar of it and mixing it with other high end metals. Maybe this all sounds meh, but I'm sure whatever comes in will be fun.

Jorb said awhile ago there are already different metal nodes in the game.

yeah templars are not in the same time period, thats why i said like a templar.more metal gear would be great(craftable).dont matter if its just a metal chest piece or somthing like this

and the steel tools would be great, adding more choping, mining, and digging speed without slotting things. but becomes way better with full slotted worker gear+steel tools.also something like cooper buttons but made out of steel :D but would add piercing power
make steel bars something like this(this model was found on google)

and you would need some sort of skill to make the building and to craft steel.the skill requirement would be based on what steel would be used for.

Add blast furnaces to make cast iron and the ability to mix metals in a crucible then we can make steal by mixing cast and wrought iron.
You should require the player to have 16 wrought iron and 15 cast Iron in their inventory to make a single bar of steel. ¦]
