Post Box 7 Post Office

I am not sure if it exists somewhere, but I did not find it and searching the forum just revealed something that I did not have in mind for a "Post Box"

There could be an NPC at Boston, who offers letterpaper for silver. Alternatively this might be a craftable item. (Paper industry, which enables to create books etc..)
The letterpaper can then be used [writing a message] and put in a postbox in Boston, or in any postbox which is constructable in the wilderness. Anybody could use a postbox in the wilderness to send letters. If you like to get messages, it is necessary to creaty a postbox on your claim. All letters sent to you can be retrieved by using the postbox on your claim. (alternatively, the postoffice in Boston will keep a letter box for you for a regular silver fee and you can collect your incoming letters there.

Sometimes I like to drop people a message when I pass a claim in the wilderness, but as we do not know who they are, it is difficult to do so. It would be nice to be able to drop a message at the claim, that can be read by the person only. And I do not want to build a sign every time. [However, I do not yet know, how this could be solved with the idea above]

The skill required would be literacy.
Price per paper 5s
Price for the Postoffice letter box 2s per day [like with the claim it has to be paid in advance and will be deducted continuesly]
A postbox will cost 2 copper,

How will you know who to send it to?

Memorize the claim owner.

You may want to rethink this

build mailbox (metal and wood) just off claim
mailboxes are indestructible but able to walk through (like H&H claim posts now) (owner/person who built it can choose to destroy it)
make paper with bark and other new things like those tray things you use to make paper
buy ink/quill set at boston (couple of uses)
write letter
deliver it yourself to whoever's mailbox
only the person who built mailbox can take letters out, otherwise you can only put them in

Sorry, not pretty, but I'm very tired...lol

Search "mail box" (any term), first page.

Also JC gave attention to that thread so a merge could be useful in order to preserve all the important comments.

Anyway, I like role playing, so I would love to see a game where communication and item delivery is handled realistically through a player made service like:

Sadly the mail service won't be used for message delivery because, well... internet, and although it would be cool to deliver items that way no one will if they can still port from claim to Boston and back with a full inventory.

As I see it, a (already mentioned) transportation overhaul and some way to fight alt-vaulting would be the required steps to end item porting. At that point a delivery system (or more likely multiple) will naturally arise from the need to deliver goods all over the map.

Being able to pay a courrier NPC for sending messages to memorized players would be nice imo.

It can't involve playermade items though, too easy to scent and track.

I would put on the same shelf as "same-sex marriage" game feature. Brings absolutely nothing to the gameplay, almost nobody would use it but it's a thing that "would be nice imo".

It would be easier than making stalker alts for all neighbours. Then again, watching people freak out when they hear the grass whistle, or even better a wicked wicker man, is kind of fun.

I was thinking about this... if item porting was no more though, would it make sense to be able to track an item from the other side of the world?
