What I suggest is:
Softcore: KO reduces 2 random profficiency points, DEATH reduces 5-x (maybe even % of total profficiency points) random profficiency points
Hardcore: KO reduces 2 random profficiency points, DEATH is permanent - character moved to Softcore

I think people, including me, would be much more likely to spend real money on silver for softcore as well as hardcore.
The threat is still there, consequences of death, even on higher levels are severe, but you do not lose character.

Hate to tell you this but it will NEVER happen.

maybe starting a new server without any bad influx of vet players to noobs (all that when purity get's fixed) can't be a totally bad idea, it is only for vets ¦] becouse they'll lose their pleased noobs

but how that is now, is impossible to make other or have soft/hard cores servers

This idea has been suggested on many occasions, so I'm closing this topic. Non-permadeath servers would go against the nature of the game, so it's highly unlikely this will ever happen.

A waste of time?

Postby Xelmoth » Sun Jun 09, 2013 12:34 am

Dear Developers,

if i spend a few weeks in this game. Building up a character, make a home with a farm and a garden start the time consuming process of purification. AND then some guy i don´t know comes along and kill my character and destroys my home: How Can I not think that the last weeks (playing salem) were a waste of time?

I think there is an imbalance here.
There is this very detailed crafting system. Which can expand more (go for industry!). And it needs time.
AND
There is permanent death.

Each has its rightful place. But it is not cool together. I think the crafting is to complex and time consuming for perma death. (I think in "Don`t Starve" perfectly applied)
Why not creating a game that can easily liked by MANY players. I WANT THIS GAME PLAYED BY MANY PEOPLE. So why not making a PvE or Single Player Version? Enemies can be NPCs.

Player killing other Player is not interesting for all. And it is obviously no social experiment because we all know what will happen.

I don't want to get rid of the perma death but i want to get rid of the despotism of the other players (sorry guys).

Yea. I know posted a thousand times bla bla bla. But were is the answer from the developers?

The penalty of death makes everything more valuable.

If you don't want to be killed group up and build a strong community.

If you would like to remain solo and not get killed randomly come to Roanoke and Candy Gang will ensure that doesn't happen.

If you WERE on Roanoke and got killed randomly (doubt it) provide details of the location of your claim and you can come watch us obliterate this criminals base and all their possessions will be given to you.

I guess you could check the game's politics in House of Burgesses section, keep it friendly with the strongest faction on your server and try not to commit crimes. Also, create alts for different jobs and you'll be fine.
We make sword stone for keeper and pull they do it and excalibur come out. have no make stone to for sword we make sword box for sword to put sword in for sword. -Moniker (Anarchy online)

thanks for the suggestions ^^ but it is not about how to act or play. It is the game and the balance of those two elements that I am concerned of.

Too many people I know come to this stated question: How Can I not perceive the playtime as a waste of time if some "guy" came and destoy everything in short time?

If you get killed by a random wondering stranger, you are playing the game wrong.
If your base gets discovered within the first few weeks of game play, you are playing the game wrong.
If your base gets razed to the ground in <1h, and they destroy everything, you are playing the game wrong.

*Points to the 99.99% playerbase*

Learn to be a better gamer in general is all i really should say.. "Perma death game", oh look there is a random stranger, Lets go talk to him, You die. Sad truth is, if you approach or allow a wondering stranger to approach you, YOU DESERVE TO DIE !

Paradox ? More like paranoid <-- This should be your in game reactions to everything, people come to this game thinking it to be flowers and sunshine, and hippy circles of crafting. Its a perma death game. Like you wouldn't walk up to totally random people irl in the middle of a jungle, who have a sword and axe equipped to their belt and try to start up a convosation, so why the ***** would you do it here ?

Salem is a perma-death mmo by nature and there will be no plans to remove this feature or its implications. Death should feel heavy and meaningful.
