In real life a mermaids purse is the egg case of a shark:

It would be nice to find these occasionally in fish traps and washed up on the beach (sea shore).
Like squirrel's stashes, Turkey and Argo gizzards and birds nests we could dissect them/open them to see what they contained, chances are you will find seaweed, rocks and sand but the possibility for rusty coins and silver, maybe even some gold flakes, those mermaid's do like shiny things.

IMO all of these things that can be rummaged/dissected, should be inspirationals, so you have to choose between the chance for something better or just studying them as they are.

Personally I like this idea.

We could use the Coagulative Alembic as a Steam Distiller with three slots instead of two. If you put two different items in then it mixes them.

Baking potatoes in campfire ash. Simple as that. It's very common food in my area when you go on a trip
They could give the same biles as raw potatoes but have smaller impact on potato category. Say 20% (instead of 70%) chance to reduce by 30%

We need more potato recipes in general. They're one of the most versatile foods IRL, but the recipe selection in Salem is really small. Though I guess they'd be more of an ingredient in other food groups (meat in particular) rather than potato group recipes.

Learnable skill that allows one to throw extra coal into smelter to speed up smelting process.
For example extra 15 coal reduces smelting time by 50%
Extra 30 coal reduces smelting time by 67%
Extra 45 coal reduces smelting time by 75%
and so on

Wouldn't that cause people to make hundreds of coal piles and speed their smelters up to like 1000% faster?

I think this would be a good idea if it had a cap like max 50 extra coal.
