Yea, having harsh penalties to being defeated can cost a game players. Personally I think the element of danger and loss makes the crafting part more worthwhile.

It's not at all easy to die if you're cautious.
A good player won't leave scents, a bad one will. Scents are quite capable of getting your character killed.

Inheritance (other than claims) may not exist directly but it definitely exists. Over your characters lifetime you (presumably) build up infrastructure, experience and access to better stuff. Which means your next character(s) will be raised faster, more efficiently and with less efford. You can also raise your replacement chars before you ever lose your main one(s), just in case.

Because self defense and executing murders are crimes this sounds like a terrible idea.

i like the ideea of a peacefull salem, im also tired of beying raided/had my friend killd for no reason

And for those carebears that say is impossible thats what you sayd when i opened that topic for stronger walls ohh it felt so good when the devs stated that there will be stronger walls/cannons

1. This game will always be permadeath

2. Even the old devs said there will be more walls. Please don't act like you have done something special.

I guess that group would be rather small - having searched for a free crafting MMO I do not see how it can turn in to a payed for single player game and people still staying with it.

Just build good defenses and be careful when outside them its not hard.
Also you realize that despite the new walls its likely that raiding will still be getting easier.
