If the difference is to be introduced, it has to be on different servers.

Aging chars shouldn't have access to criminal skills :)

Then no matter how aggressive you are, your farmer is completely invulnerable, not only practically like he is now.

...then again, since everyone's already doing it, it's not that big of a stretch.

Actually, how about a Jekyll and Hyde thing? Each character has two sides, each with its own humour levels. Jekyll cannot fight other pilgrims or commit crimes at all, but can be knocked out, turning into Hyde, but not losing anything - yet. Hyde, in turn, can commit crimes, destroy objects, track criminals, and fight other pilgrims. When he is knocked out, all his humours go down to 5.
If the two sides' humours are equal, they're raised simultaneously. But if Hyde's are lower, only his are, so you have to get him back to where you left off before raising Jekyll's further.
A character can transform voluntarily once he learns the rights of Englishmen, but it takes a while, and cannot transform more often than 6 hours. If a transformation was forced, he can only go back to being Jekyll after 24 hours, or when the offender has himself been killed. Well, knocked out.

There, safe progress for peaceful characters, high risks for fighters, and no need to game the game by keeping two separate characters and alt vaults. Sounds a bit silly, but you guys are clever. You can refine it.

I'm not familar with the game enough to pretend I know how or the best way to implement a PVE server.

But I do know know, if you build it, they will come.

I'd be fine with dying to an agressive animal or occassional pvp but not all of us are cut out for perma death and 24/7 pvp. I can handle dropping everything on me and loosing a skill % to respawn at either my claim or town should I not have one.
I also know I am not unusual in this aspect.

Someone mentioned 'then you have immortal farmers'. Respectfully, where's the problem?
I still take a pentalty and still die, I admit it's a bit more common in gameplay but not seeing a problem, this would not effect the current players or servers. It would be an alternate way to play.

Give "us" other conflict, for example:

-Agressive animals, frequently
-Much Slower skill gain, 30%, 50%? I'd still play!
-spawns are less frequent, maybe 25% less so we need to put in more effort for smooth stones, berries, shrooms and such.
-in some form, make purchasing a claim a requirement, so that we also invest towards game updates, improvements, etc.
This can be done in many ways. Alter claims slightly to require upkeep, both in materials and/or silver respective to size and/or player skill.
-limited pvp - random generated? Weekends? Penalty for 'over-killing' or just a faster drain on humor.

The altered coding for ideas such as these would not be overly complicated.

It may not be what the Devs intented for Salam, however, it doesn't make it a bad idea.
Obviously the Devs are moving up, Salam is HnH for 2012, maybe the Dev's in 2014 would like to branch out so I offer the suggestion for a new client base.

And thanks to all for the support, I truely hope the Devs take a coffee, read and consider this.

This subject comes up every month or two. Thread closed for being a repeat. In the future, as always, make sure the idea doesn't already exist before posting a new thread.

There may be valuable discussion here, and if it's a worthy idea on its own, should be in it's own thread for discussion or the Simple Idea threads if it doesn't need discussion.

Freedom of choice

Postby Dalegor » Sat Mar 02, 2013 1:26 am

Id like to propose diffrent server type's:
- easy (only pve)
- medium (pvp no perm death)
- hard (pvp with perm death)

Some people have real life and dont like to lose everything because one mistake. And with diffrent server difficult level everyone can choose what they want, and what game style they prefer.
