I wish there was non-PvP version of Salem, but there isn't.
I believe that it is a matter of design and intent. Just about every single game out there is non-perma death and most don't even have PvP, let alone open PvP and destruction. Why make something that fits the mold of what everything else does? The devs intend to make something different and have built Salem from the core with the intent of it being open PvP with perma death and destruction. Without those features the necessity of humours rapidly dwindles as you get past the initial 50 and without real consequences there aren't even reasons to push them higher to hunt more dangerous animals.
When it comes down to it, we've seen that people play perma death games and enjoy perma death games. It's not the PvP or destruction that turn them off, it is poorly designed mechanics in the way of playing the game that do. I maintain that the UI needs some serious work and that even the basics such as the chat interface could use substantial improvements.
I am aware of that. I was merely stating that permadeath isn't something that objectively makes every game better. As you said, it's a matter of design, intent and mechanics. Some people like it, some don't. That for my first sentence.
In the second part I meant that there is no non-PvP game with such fun mechanics like Salem / HnH and that I would gladly play a version of those games without PvP.
In other words, I think PvE mechanics alone in those 2 games are fun / original enough to give a lot of joy to builders / crafters. Even as single player games.
Can't wait for Stranded 3
