It doesn't take a lot of effort to circumvent those methods. Just because someone was stupid and got banned doesn't mean it works perfectly. Besides, what is the point in making alts in planetside?

As i said, HWID-ban is enough for most users. Yes, it can be avoided using third-party soft, but when it comes with IP-checking, it's a pain-in-da-ass and a lot of time. Works just fine (not brilliant).

Just check any SOE's game to see how many kid-cheaters they got.

And what do you want to achieve here? Practically most of the regular Salem players know how to get around HWID or IP check. The only thing you will get this way is increasing the gap between more tech-savvy players and the rest. Anyone, who really needs the alts, will get around it.
And what SOE games do you have in minds? I believe sure that no MMORPG has anti-alt rule.

HWID is a piece of cake. It's enough to run a virtual OS. Or, you know, just have another PC / laptop. New IP? Use proxy, there are plenty of those. But noone will ban because of matching IPs anyway, because family members can play too or students in dormitories.

Mate, now you are only throwing insults left and right. Is that what you came for? Show me a MMORPG with anti-alt rule. Planetside is not banning for alts. It's banning for bots and hacks.

Anyway, most people here know it's impossible to get rid of alts. You can either accept it and try to understand why, or just keep insulting everyone, even though you have no knowledge, under disguise of suffesting ideas for the game. I'm out

@boston port: I agree, but it does make the salem world feel more civilized than the haven one. There is much to be said about boston in its favour, too.

@no alts and the resulting discussion: very few of the MMO's I've played had a no-alt rule. They all had a no-bot rule, and most limited the interaction between same-IP alts, for example.
Thank god jorb and loftar don't feel to impose such a ridiculous restriction on us. I sure as hell wouldn't bother anymore if I could only play with a single character at once. Salem is grindy enough as it is, and one of the good things is that you are able to work with 3-4 characters at the same time to get rid of some of the grind-feeling. Can you imagine digging lime with your main character, going to the lime quarry and back with a couple of chests like a savage? Next you'll be requiring a single IP per base rule
