And the reply was?

Essentially that it was a terrible idea iirc

Well, then we could have indentured servants instead of kids. They'd do scut work or whatever, and again, probably get murdered a lot if unattended, but whatever. You watch your investment.

You could have a simple form by just having them be like a pet from Ultima Online, except with options to tell it to chop wood or plant or whatever, instead of just attacking stuff. Probably, it would be good to make them rather weak in combat, or incapable of it, lest people pwn all by having an army of angry farmers to back them up in pvp thru leet micro.

Still sounds terrible. Just make a bot instead of asking the devs to do it for you.

Yeah, but this way it's mediated by actual in game costs and limitations set by the devs. Saves you boring work, but needs some management and resource investment. You can't tell me you like doing the boring work you just half way watch while you watch youtube or something.

I rather them spend time on content then making you a bad bot.

I was elaborating on someone else's idea. Brainstorming if you will. I don't want it terribly. As it is they are going to do animals and I'm assuming they will have labor saving features.
Fine, let's split the difference and just say "give us animals dev, I want a draft animal to help with work".

Something like a family tree could fit in Salem, but it seems quite unlogic to have childeren.

About indentured servants, there was a similar idea at the very beginning of this forum. Iirc, it wasn't much of an idea to begin with. Historical as it is, people still cry about it as slavery. About animals, I believe you still have to actively control the beasts to work on your land. My final point is, yes, give us some animals to quicken labouring but don't give us bots.
We make sword stone for keeper and pull they do it and excalibur come out. have no make stone to for sword we make sword box for sword to put sword in for sword. -Moniker (Anarchy online)

I like the core of this idea, but more as a tie in/replacement to the inheritance mechanics.

The way I see it would be that upon the death of your current main character you would be able to choose one of your children to become your active playable character. Your child (now an adult) would inherit your claim, as well as a portion of your stats. This could be as simple as flat %, or a more in-depth, varied amount based on how the child was raised.

On the note of raising the children, I do not think they should ever be present in the real-time game world, maybe they need to be schooled in Boston before being eligible to inherit. Maybe in the time they are being schooled, or aging, you can also apply some limited form of the gluttony mechanics.

There are a lot of fun directions you could take this. If a parent was murdered maybe the child instinctively can track the murderer. To get married, requirements would be based on the Church and maybe even a Preacher who has learned the ability/possess documents to perform a marriage ceremony , maybe even able to churn a profit from it.

Yeah this would be great, anything to remove the tedious grind in every aspect of the game. Also gives players a new way to progress, minus the grinding.

The kids could be kidnapped or killed, making raiding more important.

Having children as farm hands is really realistic because that is the exact thing people did back in the time this game was set in. They had children to reduce the amount of tedious grinding they had to do every day to maintain their homestead.

I agree with OP, bastard children should certainly misbehave and cause trouble as statistically, children from fatherless homes are MUCH more likely to become criminals.

Maybe one's partner doesn't have to be a player, maybe they could just be NPCs who live in your house(and require a house on claimed land to marry).

Say these sentences out loud and without context of this discussion. In a public place, preferrably.
