I think because he doesn't want people sneaking up on him, he wants to be able to sneak up on them.

I'll have to agree with you here. being pretty much forced to play all zoomed out all the time would be ugly and annoying

try moving while carrying a deer or bear ... but don't move too fast or player will get suspicious why that animal is moving so fast & straight at you. :)
