'If having alts are that beneficial, and they are, people will get them. They will sockpuppet, they will use multiple computers and multiple emails. Why fight a war when alts are beneficial with regards to permadeath specifically?
The one way to look at it is this. Unlike in the haven system, alts definitely require work to create here. Haven it was easy to passively up alts with little to no work, but Jorbtar have made changes and Salem doesn't have that issue. Losing an alt still means losing hard work put into said alt. The real key is to not make swissarmy knife characters that are jack of all trades. If you lose that character you're devastated when you didn't need you baker skills (assuming baking will eventually require stat grind) to be out hunting deer when you got ganked for example.
The alt system benefits you as much as anyone else.
