the client performance should reset again by logging out (not simply switching characters). I have no clue why java refuses to release the resources and frankly, I haven't been able to find the reason in debugging sessions.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

I think there is some "forgotten" cache somewhere. Have you noticed that when you relog from one character to some other then all skills, crafting and building options in the menu are retained from the first character? What I mean is - character A can build smelters. Character B cannot. I relog from char A to char B and now char B has the option to build a smelter in the menu. Of course it doesn't work, but it's still there. So, something holds (and uses) character-specific data in cache.

I wager 25% were AFK. At least 50 of them were in bed asleep... asleep at their PC... or AFK waiting for that first alchemy tick... from null is about 4 hours.

Since the new server... and increasing since John Carver took over stewardship of the game... lag, rubberbanding, crappy game performance is on the rise. I would love to blame that on increased population... but let it be ACTIVE population.

It's past time Devs started booting folks who are not in the game... whether they are catching some ZZZ's or waiting for alchemy's first tick, etc...

Why am I competing for game resources with folks who are doing something else entire...something other than Salem?

I have none of the problems you do in game. Maybe you should troubleshoot on your end.

I'd say it's probably about time for him to upgrade from his Commodore 64 to a computer that was built during this century.

The issue, to me, revolves around the 1x1 terrain 'fix' that increases FPS... not just Boston but in general.

It wouldn't be less an issue, save extreme situations, if the Devs would boot those players who were not actually actively playing. Indie or not- 99% of the games I have ever played... if folks are AFK long enough... boots them out. As population is growing in Salem... I don't think this is too much to ask.

The old server had better I/O than the current one does... I recall Loftar commenting on it. As such sacrifices must be made. Time to start booting inactive players.

(OR I just might join the crowd... let's see how many it takes to kill the server.)

Hey- that's an idea... let's have everyone port to Boston when you go normally log out... just leave your toon active in Boston.

I'm going to start doing it. We can inflate the 'actual players' and help kill the experience for other players... yeah... what a deal... Hey...can't win... join... what's to lose?
