Supress Alt Creation: Characters Can't Log Out

Interesting ideas :)

After my post I was thinking about alts abusing... and I think I have solution for that, but this maybe too hardcore for some people :)

But first of all you guys should really think a while about question:
Why would medicore player want to join salem few months after last wipe and play, while there are no-life having for example 800 biles and that new player after month can have only 80 biles.
----

My idea to stop alt abusing:
Don't let characters to go offline at all, doesn't matter if he is criminal, fisherman, farmer, trader alt or just 5 biles noob alt, he should stay in game forever
I know this is perma death game, so your super crafter can be killed at any time and that is the point.

If your fisherman/hunter/miner would be killed he should inherit 50% of his profs and biles.
If your murder-alt with criminal debuff would be killed he should inherit zero/none/nothing :)

After player clicks logout/quit/exit his character is ported to leanto, stake claim or other home-like-structure (bed inside a house maybe?)
House doors should have locks and beds would be great as safer replacement for leantos in towns.

Murder skill should add debuf same as entering private claim (your biles got slower regen) and after each kill you lose 80% of your max phlegm, YB and BB, that should make mass murderers using single char much harder or even impossible.
In group PvP before you kill someone you would have to think how to not lose your character after you got only 20% phlegm and YB.

----
You have right now two types of metal copper and iron, maybe copper brazier could trigger only on combat (waste and larceny won't trigger them) and instead of burning BB they could burn YB to make fights inside enemy claim possible for medicore players?

In my opinion medicore player could easily catch up to hardcore players, bacause
1. The higher your's stats are its getting more difficult to rise them anymore.
2. Hardcore player at the beginning had to build everything by himself while a player who's starting the game can just join developed village and rise faster.

1. Players would just stay at safezones if it's possible.
2. Less you play your character is in greater danger.
3. It wouldn't let players taking even a single break from game.

Death is death... i can't agree with promoting less aggressive play style while it's PvP game afterall.
And You wanted to reduce amount of alts while it would just make more of them...

And if i don't have any home, after loginig out i'm ported to safe Boston?
Why cant i leave my character in midway somewhere in the forest even if i know the risk?
That would be only a disadvantage to medicore players, hardcore players would just left character logged in for the whole night in a safe spot...

1. In team-fights players would kill just after beating whole other team.
2. There would be even more murder alts.
3. If I have killed someone defending my base i would gain 80% debuff making me completely unable to keep defending it? Or should i just leave raider be so he could come back and try next time?
4. To fight we would have to outnumber enemies or we would easily lose.
5. Stronger side would get rid of any danger while attacking, because if defender kill someone of them he would kill him self at the same time.

For the record, Jorb and I have often considered this idea quite seriously for a long time, though mostly in the context of Haven. The main reasons we haven't implemented it are:
  • We find it too harsh for the noobs who don't have locked houses and walls and claims and whatnot. These players will be constantly stuck in the wilderness without even so much as high HP for defenses and will be culled mercilessly. I'm afraid it would be almost impossible to start the game without playing constantly until you have a claim and walls.
  • Pretty much regardless of the game's retention rate, the landscape would be littered with people who've stopped playing, which is quite ugly. This is triply problematic in Salem due to Boston.

If it weren't for those problems, we'd probably already have that.

For the second part, wouldn't the active players take care of the mess?

Also remove Boston plox.

Certainly, but that is what gives rise to the first problem. :)

My reasons are simple here if for example 800 biles or 200+ all profs character is more valueable than entire town infrastructure why would anyone try to fight?
Make infrastructure more important than few murder alts and you will have PvP during raids.

You could logout in house, claim, town, but not in safezone. That would change only one thing crafters without scents would be in same danger as criminals (summon and kill). Why? Because after raid enemy crafters are in most cases running away or logout that is a bit annoying.

You wouldn't be able to manage many high stats alts with no-logout-mechanic :)

Without home you are going to stay in location where you logged out.
You can :)
That would be main reason to find large town to cover your ass ;)

1. if they have that huge advantage they can do it and that is fine
2. more soldiers more wars more fun :)
3. if you KO anyone on your claim he is going to stay there for many hours, so why would anyone kill raider during raid.

1. But we have safezone sir, I do understand that in hnh it would be problem, but not in salem. Just make proper warning message for noobs that are leaving safezone.
2. Make "hunger" if character doesn't eat for many weeks he is losing biles, after he hits 0 he dies.

Feone wrote:I think another giant barrier to new players, one I havn't really seen mentioned here yet (though I may have overlooked it) is the complete lack of options to practise pvp.

Characters are enormously valuable, that alone makes any sort of fighting a risk, however it's not the only reason. You can't win with 0 pvp experience against people who do have it, making it not just risky but mostly pointless to even try.
Can't practise because it's too risky. It's too risky, partially, because we can't practise.

I cant agree with that, you can practice.

I guess we'd have finally have a reason to have inns. Though that brings up the issue of where will a couple hours old newb get the cash to pay for room.

He should be able to stay in safezone for free until he hits ~20 in average from biles or ~20 in single prof.
