Claim Tweek

Postby Kaleb » Thu May 16, 2013 3:09 pm

After starting a new toon and setting across the land, I ran into many abandoned claims. Some were broken into, some just abandoned. After reading the forums later I realized I had done good traveling many hours from Boston to set up my small farm. I generally invest in newer games because I believe that even F2P require a lot of work by the devs. Looking at the cash shop I bought a few silver packages (even though they are still in the bank) but decided it was a waste of my money to buy items that some super powered toon could steal with little or no problem.

Anyway here is a small suggestion. As long as the claim stone has silver in it, the claim cannot be raided. Or maybe the buildings cannot be destroyed but items can be stolen. This would not only give the players a little more sense of security, but would encourage raising silver.

Also I am sure this would still leave claims available for raiding.

I am a newer player (at least in the forums) so my opinion may be way off base, but relative to my viewpoint (so far)

Terrible idea, it would turn off 50% of current Salem content.

That sounds better, but what if I make kilns or fireplaces around my camp? How you want to raid it then?

I am not trying to discourage raiding, I loved scavenging items in a different Sandbox game. I was just trying to limit the amount of damage done to hermit farmers. It doesn't seem to me that a loner would be able to take advantage of the new purity patch.

The only items that would be protected would be on Claim. If you loaded up tour claim with kilns or fireplaces, how would you get around?

That's what you get when you're a hermit, basically. If anything, this patch did encourage teaming up.

Char inside the kiln wall, char outside of it and trade items through Boston.

I think you have seriously misunderstood what this game is about. Objects in Salem (and HnH) derive their value from the fact that someone can take them away from you, whether it is a singing old log that you found, some sea island cotton that you farmed or the life of your toon. That fact that you can lose it is what makes you cherish it.

This is a terrible idea and the thread needs to be locked.

There would only be dead claims able to raid which would in turn make raiding not challenging nor would it be actual raiding. With a active population there would be ZERO raiding going on.

You also forgot to mention how murderers would be running around being unsummonable.

Some variation of what you suggest might work out, but the idea of blocking raiding completely is rather silly.

Maybe if there is upkeep in your claim, items are fair game, but destroying noncombat (walls/defense) buildings requires some form of a waste claim being put up? This way you can steal everything, murder whoever but to completely wipe the persons base off the map you need to take an extra step in terms of gold/time invested. In the cases where the upkeep has run out, this would not be needed.

Overall I think it would be nice to see it take a bit longer to destroy an entire base, though this might not be the best direction to tackle the problem.

Sorry, but this is never going to happen. Destruction of other people's property is a core feature of the game.

furthermore, being only able to destroy combat buildings (walls, braziers, torches) would just open SO many abuse possibilities. There are already people bell-hopping to be unsummonable. What do you think would happen if you would apply the same waste mechanic to player claims?

Scratch that: just think back to what DID happen with player claims. Exactly as described. Originally, with the waste claim update for towns the same mechanic was added on a smaller timescale for pclaims. It got scratched within DAYS, for good reasons.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.
