i like the idea of making traps

maybe a easy trap may be an hole covered with maple leaves and branches... the bun jump in and when you come again it's dead by starvation in the bottom of the hole.

another can be the change of setting baits for VERY big animals... let's be serius, if i want to hunt bears i can set a trap with a ton of meat and when i go to check if it worked, and i find there is a bear inside there is a 50-50 change the bear is still alive and very FURIUS  with anithing cross his line-sight.
naturally those baits have a fast decaing time so you can expect a catch in a trap only between 2 hours or so

i don't think it will be boring... it will change the point of sight of hunting and meeting beasts ^_^

PS: wtb a strange beast wich spawn only after being "summonned" by a special bait?

I think a bear trap should just immobilize the bear allowing you to shoot it if you can handle his roars. Wouldnt be a newbie thing to do and it shouldnt be.
Some kinds of traps could be triggered by players aswell making your stroll all the more exciting..

One kind of bear trap that exist(ed) in real life was the placement of a rifle/gun with a trigger device that made the gun fire when the bear triggered the mechanism shooting the bear in the face and often killing him. Could be fun for both bears and players. ¦]

I love the idea of traps, bear traps that players can fall into :)

How about hunting with dogs? Like dears, bunnies, foxes etc... The dog(s) chase your prey to you or the traps you set earlier.
We make sword stone for keeper and pull they do it and excalibur come out. have no make stone to for sword we make sword box for sword to put sword in for sword. -Moniker (Anarchy online)

Chase rabbit into rabbit hole hole, make fire outside hole, wait 10s, rabbit appears outside dazed for 5 seconds, were you can loot it like KO;d turkey. If you fail to loot the rabbit it runs off, fire insta despawns, and the chase starts over.

No combat involved, better for new players to farm / kill, as well as bringing a new kind of hunting element to the game.

So under this new system, you need fire, and branches and time to hunt rabbits.

A rabbit would never run TO a fire. Rabbiting was done using either dogs or some other animal to help chase the rabbit out of it's hole which was laid over with a net type of trap. Some were a bag type that would drape over the hole and ensnare the fleeing rabbit. The wiki also says this about historic rabbiting still practiced today! : "In medieval times, a hawk or falcon would have been used to catch the rabbit as it exited the warren burrow. For this type of hunt, an albino ferret would typically be used, allowing the bird-of-prey to more easily recognize it. While this hunting style is still occasionally used, especially in the UK where it remains popular, (see Falconry) the above methods have almost entirely replaced it." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit-hunting

So you could use ferrets (females were used as males tended to EAT the bunnies in the burrows) and falcons with what they call long nets.

You're missing the point. The rabbit runs out of their hole because of the smoke filling up its burrow. Google it, it is actually done. Peasantry in the middle ages couldn't afford birds of prey usually, let alone dogs.

There are lots of creative ways that hunting/trapping could be implemented. The problem is the current tech tree unlocks fighting skills which would become entirely useless if trapping in various forms is implemented, except in PvP scenarios. How wiill the devs justify doing that that?
