A friend just had his claim robbed because he didn't know about the upkeep and he plays everyday. Maybe there should be some kind of warning.

(He had the claim before the change)

Most people would know about this if they read the wiki and/or forums.

Again you should not need to read forums / wikis to get the basic machanics of the game, such things should be introduced through tutorials.

Like when you make your first claim stone from now on, there is a pop up box like in other events, which explains about upkeep etc.

However when such things are introduced, they could easy make something to it also pops up for all players once, because its a new event.

How do you tell the players which claim it is that needs to be loaded for the month?

If you dont visit your claims often then you got no warning message, but if you walk over your claim and it has low upkeep you get warning.

But then how much harder is it to just walk up to the claim stone and check? If you're going to create something easy-mode for players, make it easy, not just half ass it.

Because manuals are so 1986, right?

1. This is a beta and devs are trying to get a game complete. These things can come along after the mechanics are finished.

2. This is a beta. It's up to each player to read the forums and any other sources of information (such as a wiki) to make sure their knowledge of the game stays up to date.

You're argument would hold water if it was a released game, but for now, it's just a bunch of boards and an iron band laying on the ground waiting to be assembled.

Even though it is absolutely true that L33LEE is a complete and utter darnokpl, I feel the beta excuse is way overused. Anyone that wants to play can easily get an account and log in the game in 5 minutes abarring technical issues if they have the beta key link, so that knocks the closed part off its hinge. We've seen so many "release dates" pass by its maddening.

So right clicking the stone and hovering the mouse button over the "silver bar" is too much to ask? (If you do so I believe there are instructions.) In my opinion if you are able to build it, I would expect most people to be curious of how it works.

It is easy to walk up to the claim stone and put there silver, but people that do not read forums got no idea they should do this.

Would be great, but they are not curious :(

They say curiosity killed the cat. I'm more inclined to believe it's the bear that did it, but let's not point fingers now.
The only two things that I believe should be done about this, is that Sevenless puts a NB point in his guide about this, and that wiki page about Stake Claim is updated with the new info. And that should do it.
Whoever reads neither of those, either prefers to learn stuff by himself from experience (good or bad) or not to learn at all.

But it is STILL a beta of a game that is STILL in development. I really do hope that some better in-game tools and descriptions come around, but I will say I'd much rather have the game content done beforehand as writing tutorials and guides are a constant effort as long as mechanics are subject to change. What's worse--lack of information or completely wrong information?
