In the end they got nuked. Very rarely profitable.. In the history of mankind slavery has been the rule, not the exception and has had to be profitable in most cases. Im also not taking morality into account mind you.. Slaves in classic times (Greece/Rome) was for the most a very valuable commodity that was taken good care of. Some slaves were proffesionals that were slaves just in name. On the other end of the scale you would have the concentration camps of the nazis that besides being factories were irrational killing/torture chambers. So slavery is a not just one thing. However I doubt it has a place in the game since it would be offensive to many people.

This was a pretty nice troll thread for such a simple troll post.

I would wager that less than .1% of the Salem Player base has ever been or owned a slave. Therefore, the majority "offended" is taking arms about something that happened they never experienced and have only heard about, or read about in books. The Plight of the Native American is just as much a piece of American history as Slavery is and so far we have:

"Savage" Charms
"Indian" Cotton
"Indian" tracking

and not a single item with a politically correct reference to them. I'm not complaining because... *spoiler alert* I never lived in a teepee nor have I ever been forced to relocate from my land by modern Americans. The lines have already been crossed by introducing content with a dark past and I see nothing wrong with it. I am anxious for slave-shackles to be introduced as inspirationals and still believe that this OP's idea is a very valid one.

It would be very unlike the Great Spirit to fail to introduce something because the public is too ignorant or too embarrassed to take a deeper look at their very real History. "We" as a new generation owe nothing for the sins of our ancestors and if anything only risk the success of future generations by trying to "hide" the mistakes of our past. I say let the errors of our History sing louder than the tales of heroism.

So how would this be implemented?
Slaves can be sold on the pier of Boston? What should the complexion of their skin be?
Should other players be enslavable? Should the enslaved player have the option to just leave that character turning it to a bot with his name?
Should natives be enslavable? (Historically they werent enslaved in great degree for some reason I havent read enough about to say anything sensible about.)

Weren't most of those questions answered in the OP? I would support NPC slaves in Salem as described by the OP. Many of my ancestors were slaves and far from offending me, I think it would be educational.

I think it would be even more interesting if indentured servitude were allowed. This would be similar to the slavery idea, but would involve real players. Indentured servitude was used extensively in early American colonies. People wishing to come to America would agree to work for their sponsor for several years in exchange for the sponsor paying their way to get to the colonies. There are no travel expenses in Salem, but there are other things to buy.

You already can, but it would be hard to enforce. I'll give you this dowsing rod if you dig my new outpost. It's far too risky for whoever goes first. I give you the dowsing rod and you run off and build a mine. You dig my outpost and I stab you and bury you in it. The only thing is you can't travel yet, but once you can, I can only assume it will be the same as work.

So when do we get Indian NPC's so we can commit genocide, collect scalps and earn bounties? Maybe after we get horses and the indians can steal them?

This thread has been addressed by the community and has turned into a contest of who can be the most offensive for the sake of being offensive. If you'd like suggest this topic again then present it in as mature and serious of a fashion as possible knowing full well what you are suggesting. Locking this thread.
