Boston Streetlights/Coal Generator

Postby colesie » Tue Nov 20, 2012 6:06 am

Exactly what the title says.

A generator that will most likely be placed in the centre of your village that runs on coal or some other form of power that you keep fueled like your village bell. It provides power for things like the streetlights in boston. This leaves room for things like massive darkness villages equipped with constant light. Another way for streetlights to work could be the same way as oil candles in that they burn very, very slowly.

Always wanted to pop those lampposts from Boston around my place and I'd happily dump a clamp every couple days into a generator for them. The oil candles thing is nice, especially since we can make oils now.

People started using electricity in the late 19th century. I believe Salem is in early 18th century? Or even earlier?
Anyway, before electricity streetlights used candles.

And that's what I expect to be new tier of braziers - metal lampposts fueled with candles

I've always assumed it's based on the "Salem Witch Trials" Which were right at the start of the 1700's.

So those lights would have been lit by oil, not electricity. Doesn't change if we can have them, just how they refuel.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

Well, I was going to say that gas street lights weren't used until the 19th century, but doing a bit of digging and I found a bit about the Arabs using them as early as 1000 AD, so... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_light#History

Great idea!!
