Affluence bonuses

We can make soap, and we can study it, but we can't actually wash with it. I was thinking it could be a nice thing if everyone around here could start smelling a little sweeter. By right clicking and using soap on a bucket of water we not only get a cloud of lather but also a "smelling sweet" buff that gives +100 affluence (or whatever seems appropriate). If you use rose scented soap it would give a better buff, +200 lets say. If a couple of different states for water were added, cold, warm and boiling, on top of salt that we already have. It could be that you need to use warm water to gain this buff. Furthering that, if the subject of home improvement is ever approached then it would be great if we could add copper boilers to our stoves that provided us with warm water for washing when the header tank was filled with cold water.

Didn't people not have the greatest of hygiene in this time period? Something about washing off the bodies protection or some such nonsense.

Would be interesting to get this bonus and then have a debuff for enhanced disease time and more violent cough/sneezing/vomiting/head holding. Harder to cure also.

Nah, that's mostly a wives' tale. I heard once that there was a short time where people enjoyed bathing so much the church spoke out against it and bathing became much more infrequent. But the Puritans of the Americas at least put a good deal of stock in regular bathing.

Weird. All the historical esq books I've read in the past always mention it. They do often in Shogun.

I'll have to research this when I have nothing to do at work.
