The point of having static seasons is on one hand thematic and on one hand a way to force trade by making some things more abundant in some seasons to force trade. In a way an option to having region specific biomes which is another thing that has been suggested many times.

The problem with changing seasons imo is that they are hard to balance. Missing a season because you were gone two weeks could potentially set you back way more than that. Moving season would probably give nolifers an advantage.

No lifers would also set up multiple bases that take advantage of the different seasons/areas/regions/biomes whatever you call them, in any system. Yeah sure you might miss a season if you don't play much, it might mean you are further behind, but thats what most of the game does to you anyway. Whatever way it is implemented I don't see it being anything but another push towards living in a community.

Personally I'm not a big fan of seasons. Just seems to make common things for rare and rare things more common, if devs wanted that they could change the spawn rates without coding seasons. I like the perpetual Autumn on the verge of winter feel of Salem.

I personally feel biome variations take over seasons.
