On the topic of land ownership

Postby trungdle » Sat Oct 04, 2014 6:05 pm

I want to ask you guys for your opinions about this problem that have been with me for a while. While I agree that we don't want to be grieved by other players, we certainly should not be able to dismiss other's claims as they are granted by a permission from the government. Thus destroying a claim stone to remove the claim is not quite acceptable for me.

That plot of land that you bought from the government should be protected by your basic human rights and the authority of the government. Your sons or grandsons or any other close relatives should be able to inherit your ownership and carry on your rightful operations there. I find the claim that people are trying to grief you by making claims near your town or personal land illogical, because you do not own the land that they settled in. If you find it annoying to live near those filthy immigrants, inquire the government and expand your house or town's buffer zone.

But then grievers will be allowed to block you inside their stupid claims, which is also wrong and annoying. So what do?
I decide to ask for your help. Now, I do have a plan myself. It may sound bad, wrong, stupid, or short-sighted, but my point is to invoke the discussion about this topic. I also hope John and others in the team will someday have times to think it over, as for me this is quite a necessity.

My plan:
-Assign a governor with 2 weeks office time. restrictions and benefit of being a governor:
---------no mini map.
---------no weapon allowed. can't be killed, but can be knocked off and robbed.
---------no free movement out of Boston.
---------is granted the ability to teleport into a town for inspections of lawsuits but is not allowed to leave the town's border further than some x space.
---------can decide if you are a griever or not.
-Allow town to construct roads and the like public properties to prevent them from being blocked off by grievers. Also encourage civil services.
-A lawyer NPC in Boston that accept lawsuit to be filled.
-Player claims cannot be destroyed but will be taken back by the government if there is no heir after x amount of time. Towns can buy off player claims from government.

***one point that I think is good but properly not: granted a big chunk of land when you found a town, allow buying more land with HUUUUUUGE amount of money. no land upkeep.

I hope I have make my point clear and everyone will voice their opinions in this thread.
Best regard,
Trungdle.

Governments don't protect property rights of folks who are delinquent on their taxes.

In fact if a an interested party is willing to pay the back taxes, the government will GIVE them title of the property.

So I propose that personal claims actually run into the negative up to an amount equal to the normal maximum silver (crime still stops at zero as normal), any person can put silver into a claim that is negative and putting the claim back to zero or positive silver instantly transfers ownerships to the person depositing the silver.

I do agree that wider buffer spaces between personal claims, and between a personal claim and a town would be good, inside a town the buffer space should be reduced to zero. None of the other gobbledygook with governors and lawyers is worth doing.

...Right, maybe I'm a bit too fond of making a government system for this game, for the sake of simulation.

For the sake of simulation governments should not be forced into the mechanics of the game but created and run by people.

Still the game can carry on some of the burden by having a groundwork template or two. I find it easier to happen if we appoint a governor. You do need some sand in the box.
