The new more 'Dire' animal versions spawn in successively darker layers of darkness in place of the current animal, possibly with overlapping ranges if this is possible as it would expose a hunter to a greater mix of animals and he would need to be aware of the difference should be be able to take down one but not the other.

What about the deeper you get, the larger and stronger the animals gets ?

That's basically what I'm saying, but it's done in discrete tiers rather then many small imperceptible increments. People like tiers they give a recognizable communicable level of progress, this is why every RPG game will advance the player in 'levels' and make the monsters stronger in big jumps as well, you need these bumps to feel that your going up/ahead, it's like climbing stairs vs a long low angle ramp.

Oh also I think this 'white hart' deer is probably going to be the deer equivalent of a March Hare. That's good and all but not quite what I'd hopped for. It is logical though that JC would go that route cause it means they need only 1 re-skin (and they made a very high quality one at that) and he can cover the whole spectrum from Boston to the darkest darkness with just a gradated probability.

A gradual ramp would be much better, that way it would feel less gamey.
