It wouldn't be as bad as it sounds...

First of all, if enslaved means that said noob is requested to perform tasks... then a lot of those tasks would involve having skills, so the captors would have to supply inspirationals.
Also consider that if you have a slave worker, you probably want him to be somewhat efficient... so the captors would also provide food to raise humors. And information on how to play the game efficiently too.

My reasoning is that captivity would be a style of play on its own, not even that much different than playing as a member of any other town. If it is implemented so that the restrictions on freedom can be somewhat modulated it could even be a good way to help towns recruit new people.

Another point that comes to mind is that if you get KOed right now you probably end up scalped. The mere fact that the possibility for enslavement (and some way to escape) could constitute an interesting antidote to the permadeath scare-factor.
I was lucky...

Hm, now you mention it, a prison would probably have to have a toggle to disable gluttony mode to prevent giving too much incentive to go omnomnom any supplied food for personal gain.
A substitute for rationing the food if you will. Disabling it should also be possible I guess, if a town feels like it.

And exactly, sure you could enslave newbies. But, at what point would it just be easier to restart the char? Pretty fast I reckon.
Right now, as said above, KO =death, almost guaranteed. Imprisonment would probably be no worse.

I can't imagine this working.

The way you described it the main gain would be forcing your enemies to do labour for you. But once (if) they do their job what's stopping you from executing them anyway?
And once people understand that they would be executed anyway - why would they work?

Do you really believe that players would be so farsighted, to stop from executing their enemies or even random people?

There is a lot of effort involved in preparation of the prison. PvP doesn't happen so often so you won't be getting many prisoners. And if you do get some there is slim chance they will work for you. Is the whole mechanic worth it?

In the true Salem spirit, there would be nothing stopping them from executing you anyway. Other than perhaps finishing the task when they aren't around and having the auto teleport free you.

Is the mechanic worth it? Probably, though I would say it's not a high priority.
I reckon it may become more viable in the future if pvp becomes more common. Perhaps any future changes to increase penalty for murder would also make it more desirable to imprison, if anything like this ever happens.
Live prisoners could also be involved in witchcraft, I guess.

What if we were only talking about a set of tools for town management that, in extreme cases, would let you set up an area to work as a prison.

I believe people would find they're own use of said tools.

Feone has originally imagined it as a black box so either you have or don't have a prison in your town. And, as much as I like the flavor of it, I can see how it won't appeal to everyone. But if it wasn't just a monolithic "place prison claim" button, and instead a certain number of mechanics you would pick and choose to suit your own town/faction style... I imagine that would have the potential to open up to emergent behavior.
I'm thinking things like a rite of passage for new town people...

On second thought... My apologies to the OP for the fact that I went clearly off topic with this as the title says Prison. I'm going to create a separate thread for ideas on town management functions.
I was lucky...
