You could logout in house, claim, town, but not in safezone. That would change only one thing crafters without scents would be in same danger as criminals (summon and kill). Why? Because after raid enemy crafters are in most cases running away or logout that is a bit annoying.

Ok, so its solution for one of 3 problems. What with other? Do u think players who cant spend most of their time in game shouldn't play Salem?
And do You think that not letting to take a break from playing is a good idea?
I think it would make players just take one break, for good.

You wouldn't be able to manage many high stats alts with no-logout-mechanic :)

If You cant protect your characters and there is always chance that u lose them, ur making more than one character so losing one wouldn't hurt that much. there would be many little hearth vaults around just to store one character.

Why cant i leave my character in midway somewhere in the forest even if i know the risk?
That would be only a disadvantage to medicore players, hardcore players would just left character logged in for the whole night in a safe spot...

Without home you are going to stay in location where you logged out.
You can :)
That would be main reason to find large town to cover your ass ;)

So, I would just keep my crafter in Boston/near Boston without home so he's safe.
And there is still no solution to problem with characters left online for night, it would make hardcore players untouchable and less active players dead.
You realy want to kill the game.

2. There would be even more murder alts.
3. If I have killed someone defending my base i would gain 80% debuff making me completely unable to keep defending it? Or should i just leave raider be so he could come back and try next time?
4. To fight we would have to outnumber enemies or we would easily lose.
5. Stronger side would get rid of any danger while attacking, because if defender kill someone of them he would kill him self at the same time.

1. if they have that huge advantage they can do it and that is fine
2. more soldiers more wars more fun :)
3. if you KO anyone on your claim he is going to stay there for many hours, so why would anyone kill raider during raid.

1. Huge or not, after each ko enemy advantage rises right? so enemy sides would fight for all or for nothing?
2. You are wrong, no more soldiers, just more murder alts, characters being able to kill not fight. And are You really against alts? Think about it.
3. maybe not during raid, but just after killing a guy he's defenseless and if a defender alone could KO 5 of 6 raiders before he lose, he wouldn't deal any damage to the attackers as he couldn't kill those 5 if he don't wanted to lose his chances. All or nothing.. and even he won killing some riders after then, he wouldn't have the chances to fight if next attack would happen in few next hours.
4. We can also simply abuse alts so our enemy kill them and we can kill him just after.

I hope we don't end up with a system where your character is always online. I like to take my hermit out on long walks to a lake several screens away where I can hunt beavers and gather stuff from the biomes there that are different from those around my base. The walk to get there is a long one so those trips can take a couple hours altogether and sometimes, in the middle of one of those journeys, something happens IRL and I have to log out for a bit. I would hate to have to instead not take such long walks if I think I might not have the time or have to rush home before I'm done hunting or have to basically go afk in the wild. People should not be punished because they have to leave the game to do something important, and people should be encouraged to wander around the map, not discouraged from it.

You would be able to take a break, just logout in large town. If you are new under 20 biles logout in safezone (boston).

Okocim wrote:If You cant protect your characters and there is always chance that u lose them, ur making more than one character so losing one wouldn't hurt that much. there would be many little hearth vaults around just to store one character.

People would stop doing many alts if characters would have been less important than few 100% purity 3 tier fields :)
Just a simple example, if we would be able to upgrade buildings (fields, smelters, windmills, owens etc etc) purity then murder alts would have less value than few 60% smelters or 80% windmill!!!
So you wouldn't worry much about losing 100 biles murder alt, but losing 80% owen would be problem if you are in a middle of war with large faction.

As for little hearth vaults, it depends how raidings is going to work in future. If only large town would give good protection then people wouldn't risk making unguarded vaults.

You can keep your crafter in safezone until he have profs below 20, that is fair imo.
As for more advanced characters without home... after logout in safezone they should be ported into random location :)
How less active town member would be more dead that right now?

1. it is perma death only total noobs are fighting for all, in group PvP after one person is KO'd others would talk and judge their chances to win, if they would have small chance to win they would try to fallback
2. but in my idea you lose 80% of your max biles for while, you can regen them and kill more characters, of course debuff would stop you from being mass murderer, but where you have seen single guy killing more than 5 people in one go? That kind of things are not in salem. Group vs group looks like 5vs2, so I think it wouldn't cause people to make more alt just to murder someone.
3. If single guy can defend town vs 5 people then I doubt it they would have balls to come back and raid him second time :P In my idea you can easily kill 2-3 raiders and not worry about losing character
4. yes that is problem :/ but if we would be able to see biles and profs of KOd character, we could only kill those that matters

As I said if you got leanto/claim/bed (in future I hope) you are going to be ported there.

1. "Log out in large town" and what if i'm not a member of a large town? Do you want to force people joining large fractions? Do You think its possible after all? Towns limit the recruitment because of the spies. I can take a break only if I'm part of a big city, only if I spent much time in game.
I'm starting to think that only players for who IRL is less important than a game would be able to play Salem with that feature.

2. I never said that those small hv would be defenseless, and for sure would be much harder to find than one big city.
Also i don't think that characters would ever have such small value.

3. As u hit 20 Your character is dead :)
Doesn't fix the constant logged in.
Imho player who's spending 1h a day isn't really active but 23h a day afk would make his character dead. While at the moment he can improve it step by stem and stay alive.

4. Firstly i can't agree that only noobs fight for all. and back to the our encounter let's say that it was really balanced fight, 1st team ko'ed 5 of 6 guys and the 2nd team 3/4 of 4, last one could be also ke'ed or just flee whatever. In this case last guy is just killing whose left one by one, and even if it was realy balanced fight only one side incur losses. Sick idea.
Let's say that guy from my example ko'ed 2/3 raiders instead of 5/6... does it even matter?

5. You can port back Without items... or without finishing what you was going for...

1. Yes I want force people to join towns! after I read that town permissions are going to be expanded I believe that it is possible to have large town. I think that only no-lifes can win in salem right now and no matter how good fighter you are you can't kill no-life crater while he is offline.
So you want full perma death game or only perma death for criminals?

2. Making small vault just to hide high biles char would be nice, but why would you want to do that? This char would be useless there.

3. As a member of town you can also advance step by step even playing 1h per day and for sure you will learn much faster in group.

4. Well that is thing that should be tested :) I think it wouldn't be so bad.

5. Yes, I can't see anything wrong with that.

And that's the problem, u see only one side of things, I'm tired arguing with you already, as I'm starting to think that Your not even thinking about obvious things that I'm trying to show You. And I' almost 100% sure that majority of people would just quit over it, and what more no new players would start to play.

That is because you are looking at my ideas one at the time, instead of all of them at once.
If you combine all my posts from this thread and get all ideas you will see that people would start to make larger towns/groups and that imo could cause good things like
- new people wouldn't be so defenceless and hardcore players wouldn't have few times stronger characters to make them unkillable,
- there wouldn't be unfair advantage for people having many murder alts and crafter alt vs people that are playing only single character, because all characters would be in equal danger and even if you would make many vaults for many of your alts you can be only at one place at the time, so you can't defend two vaults from raiders at same night,
- making valuable things unmovable (high purity fields and other structures) I want to force people to fight for things they have worked for so long (right now people prefer to run away or logout because single character is more important than entire town, with many smelters, owens, fields, walls and braziers and I think that is stupid),
- if infrastructure would have more value then making new characters would be easier, so no-logout-mechanic won't be huge problem,
- as for losing items from inventory after crash, there could be some timer before you get ported by server, for other than that I think people would just get used to it like they did to perma death,

You seem to don't understand that this leanto port after logout is at some point even more realistic solution :)
In RL you don't go too far from home without supplies, so after we would get this fover-online thing explorers would have to make small outposts for their mapping/exploring characters, how many and how dense placed it depends how much time you can travel in single game session.
Exploration and mapping would be a real thing, not just spamming alts using random travel from safezone and then walk in circles and change alt and again walk in circle. Your exploration/scout alt could be killed while you are offline and that would make your map progress slower. Some towns could have defend in that way from being mapped, right now you have no defence against mappers.

I have never seen any problems with alt use. It's part of this game, and plays a big part in it's capacity for excellent drama.
