My icons and quick-action-bar is disappearing. It seems to happen every time I get too close to my home.

Do you have any issues elsewhere, such as near other people's settlements?
Do you leave any fires lit?

At a guess, I think its related to an issue with the fire animations a few others have reported, but can't really be certain without knowing more.

If you have a webbrowser open in the background: close salem, close browser, terminate all java.exe processes, restart salem. This helps me usually.

I also have this problem, it's because of the smoke or fire. When I have a fire lit the icons turn into squares.

not sure if it's related to the OpenGL version in the gfx driver as the thread suggests, my OpenGL Version is 6.14.10.10600

I tried upgrading graphics drivers but there is only 2 drivers that are supported by my laptop manufacturer, the newer one crashes display driver all the time (on all applications) so I'm kind of stuck with the previous driver.

what's interesting is the interface bug doesn't happen if shadows are off, but if i leave shadows off the textures on the trees and my character don't load, so I kind of need shadows on.

possible fix would be to create a command or config file or interface setting to turn off smoke (or fire, whatever is causing this)

for me, it doesn't happen when I create the fire, but when the character is re-logging in again to the already made fire (this would suggest it happens when the user interface is reloaded while a fire is burning).

but only when shadows are on. perhaps a fix for this would be to disable shadows on the user interface? even though they are non existent. i'm not sure if that is possible.

You can disable shadows. I forget if there is a menu item for it in options, but you can do it via command line. See the section on console commands in the "How to UI" thread.

Yes shadows can be disabled in the UI, but I have other display issues if shadows are turned off globally so i need shadows on.

When I suggested to turn shadows off for the UI, I mean the shadows actually effecting the UI, not the view port. because the bug effects UI when shadows are on.
